How SRM GPA is Calculated

SRM Grading Scale:

  • O (Outstanding) = 10 points (90-100%)
  • A+ (Excellent) = 9 points (80-89%)
  • A (Very Good) = 8 points (70-79%)
  • B+ (Good) = 7 points (60-69%)
  • B (Above Average) = 6 points (55-59%)
  • C (Average) = 5 points (50-54%)
  • D (Pass) = 4 points (45-49%)
  • E (Reappear) = 0 points
  • F (Fail) = 0 points

Calculation Formula

GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credits) / Σ(Credits)

Example Calculation

If you have:

  • • Operating Systems (4 credits) - O grade (10 points) = 40
  • • Database Systems (4 credits) - A+ grade (9 points) = 36
  • • Software Engineering (3 credits) - A grade (8 points) = 24

GPA = (40 + 36 + 24) / (4 + 4 + 3) = 100 / 11 = 9.09

SRM GPA FAQs

What is the SRM grading system?

SRM uses a 10-point grading scale with letter grades from O (Outstanding, 10 points) to F (Fail, 0 points). The GPA is calculated as a weighted average based on credit hours and grade points.

How do I calculate my CGPA at SRM?

CGPA (Cumulative GPA) is the weighted average of all your semester GPAs. Multiply each semester's GPA by its total credits, sum them up, and divide by the total credits across all semesters.

What is a good GPA at SRM?

A GPA of 9.0 or above is considered excellent at SRM. A GPA between 8.0-9.0 is very good, 7.0-8.0 is good, and anything above 6.0 is satisfactory for most purposes.

What happens if I get an E or F grade at SRM?

E grade means you need to reappear for the exam, and F means you have failed. Both carry 0 grade points and will significantly lower your GPA. You'll need to retake these courses.
